Why kids' tableware?
Attractive kids' tableware makes learning to eat much nicer and more exciting. Kids' tableware ranges from the first baby bowl to the kids' plate and differs from adult tableware mainly through its child-friendly design.
Your baby's first tableware usually consists of a baby bowl or a warming plate. As soon as your child slowly becomes more independent and wants to "eat by themselves," the first kids' plate and the first kids' bowl entice with colorful designs.
What are the advantages of kids' plates and baby bowls?
Kids' tableware for babies and toddlers has one main advantage over regular tableware: it's made from shatterproof material such as plastic or melamine. That way, the kids' plate won't immediately break if your little learner sends their meal, plate and all, to the floor.
In addition, kids' tableware is printed with cheerful, child-friendly designs. That way, your child immediately recognizes "their" tableware, which increases their motivation to eat from it even more. A special design in the center of the plate or on the bottom of the bowl can also encourage them to spoon up their food so their favorite design comes into view.
Kids' tableware made of melamine or plastic?
Plastic (e.g., made of PP) is generally more shatterproof than melamine. Melamine can indeed crack if it falls onto very hard floors (e.g., tile floors). On the other hand, melamine feels higher quality than plastic, has a smooth surface, and comes closest to resembling porcelain.
If you own a microwave, you shouldn't heat meals in melamine tableware, since certain substances can leach out of melamine. However, filling it with hot food (or drinks in melamine cups) is not a problem. But even with plastic tableware, you should check for microwave suitability, or heat the meal in dedicated microwave-safe dishes to be safe.
Baby bowls & warming plates for the first solid food
The first baby food typically starts between months 5 and 7 – an exciting time! Does your baby like the food, or does it come right back out? So you can focus entirely on feeding, there are special baby bowls with a high rim and a non-slip base or a suction cup, so you can easily spoon the food out of the baby bowl with one hand.
A warming plate is ideal if your baby tends to eat slowly, or if things are taking longer than usual. The plate has a hollow rim that's filled with hot water through a fill opening. This keeps your baby's food warm for a longer period.
Kids' tableware sets: everything in one design
A lovely kids' tableware set makes an ideal gift for a first birthday or even for a birth! It usually includes a kids' plate, kids' bowl, and kids' cutlery in the same design. Often a kids' cup or a drinking cup is included as well. Perfect for starting out with eating independently!
