Baby carriers & wraps: Close and secure from the very start

Do you want to keep your baby close while staying flexible in everyday life? Then you need a baby carrier or a baby wrap!

We offer carriers for a variety of needs – from the baby carrier for newborns to the baby carrier from birth to the back-friendly baby carrier for longer carrying periods.

Checklist: buying a baby carrier

A good baby carrier should:

  • match your baby's age and weight

  • enable ergonomic carrying (M-position)

  • support the head and neck well

  • have an adjustable panel width

  • distribute weight evenly

  • be easy to put on

  • have wide, padded shoulder straps

  • be made from comfortable materials

Baby carrier or baby wrap?

The question of baby carrier or baby wrap mainly depends on your everyday routine. A baby wrap is especially flexible and snug, particularly in the early months.

A baby carrier is usually a bit quicker to put on than a baby wrap. Many parents find the baby carrier more practical, especially when out and about or switching between carrier and stroller.

The perfect compromise between a baby carrier and a baby wrap is a half-buckle carrier, where the shoulder straps are tied flexibly. This is especially helpful for parents of different sizes.

Baby carrier from birth: what matters

With a baby carrier for newborns good head and neck support as well as an ergonomic fit are especially important.

If you want to use the baby carrier from birth, your baby should have reached the minimum weight for your carrier. Depending on the model, this is usually 3.2 or 3.5 kg.

For very small babies, a baby wrap can also be a good alternative.

Baby carriers for front, back, or hip carrying

  • The front-carrying position is especially popular in the first few months, since your baby stays close to you and you can keep a good eye on them.

  • A baby carrier for back carrying is handy once your child gets bigger and heavier. With your baby on your back, everyday tasks like cooking or vacuuming become easier.

  • Baby carriers for hip carrying are practical for short carrying periods in everyday life, such as when shopping.

Versatile and flexible

Most of our baby carriers allow all three carrying positions – making your everyday life easier at every stage of your baby's development.

Comfortable baby carriers for summer & winter

A baby carrier for summer should be as lightweight, breathable, and gentle on the skin as possible. Airy materials like mesh fabric or linen are ideal.

If you want to use your baby carrier in winter, dress your baby in a cozy one-piece suit underneath the carrier and protect them with a warm carrier cover.

Your questions about baby carriers & wraps – answered

Many baby carriers are suitable from birth, i.e. from 3.2 or 3.5 kg. What matters is that the carrier matches your newborn's size and weight. It should support the head and neck well and be adjustable so that your baby sits in the spread-squat position.

To protect your baby's back, they should sit as low and deep as possible in the carrier with their knees drawn up. The knees are positioned slightly higher than the bottom, forming an "M". The back stays gently rounded, forming a "C".

With a full-buckle carrier, both the hip belt and the shoulder straps are closed with buckles. With a half-buckle carrier, only the hip belt is closed with a buckle, while the shoulder straps are tied. This makes a half-buckle carrier more flexibly adjustable, while a full-buckle carrier is especially quick to put on.

Baby carriers with wide, padded shoulder straps and a firm, well-fitting hip belt are considered especially back-friendly.

Many parents search for "forward-facing baby carrier" or "baby carrier facing forward". In most cases, however, it makes more sense to carry your baby facing you, since they're better supported that way and you can notice their cues more quickly. If your child wants to see more, hip carrying or, later, back carrying are often the better alternative. If you do want to carry your baby facing forward, only do so in a suitable carrier and only for a short period in a low-stimulation environment.
